 ## About this video

Implementing the AI Interpolator OpenAI module for assessing inclusive language is a straightforward task. The user is required to input their text into a designated HTML field. This feature, one of the many I coded, is specifically designed to evaluate the content for elements of inclusivity. It quickly sifts through the language used, using algorithms good at identifying terms or expressions that may not be inclusive.

The outcome is a comprehensive analysis highlighting instances where the language could be improved for broader inclusivity. Specific phrases or words are pinpointed, and reasons are provided to explain why they might exclude people. This is all part of the design: a tool that is not just about identifying issues but also about educating users on more inclusive language practices. The user can expect actionable insights and suggestions for changes, making the text more accommodating to a diverse audience.

*This video is from before the AI Interpolator module became AI Automators, part of the [AI module](https://www.drupal.org/project/ai). Module and menu names have changed since, and some steps look different today.*

- 0:01 hi there Marcus here uh in this video I'm going to show a AI workflow that's uh mostly directed against actual content Management systems but it can also be used by uh anyone who reviews
- 0:15 text basically so the idea is this that we want to make sure uh on our theoretical site here that we have inclusive language in the text that we create right so we want to create a
- 0:28 workflow where and maybe a union editor a journalist or someone can you know add a text uh and then the system can figure out uh as the first screener is this text
- 0:40 inclusive and either give that feedback back to the editor or it can mark the content as it's it's not allowed to get published until a senior editor looks at us so this is a workflow you could have
- 0:53 in a CMS as Drupal which is what you're seeing here uh I will say also that this is running Drupal then and it has the AI Interpolator modules on top of it if you don't know what
- 1:08 Drupal is or the uh AI Interpolator modules and you want to know how to install that please just look in the description of the video so there's there's going to be one video how to set
- 1:18 up Drupal from scratch one video how to set up the interpolator uh Suite of modules and another video that basically explains what the AI inter is what it's doing in the background and
- 1:32 so on uh and also this is open source it's completely free after you have looked at this you can download it set it up yourself and set up whatever change you want and on the uh website workflows of
- 1:45 a AI um you can of course find a lot more workflows anyway so before I start actually setting this up what I have is two articles set up so I have a base uh Drupal and this Bas Drupal has basic
- 1:59 basically two article set up so one called All of humankind that's inclusive in all of humankind we strive for the stars the moon was just a start that introduced the Space Race uh the people
- 2:12 uh that are in charge were in charge of NASA at that time which should probably right were great astronauts right so very inclusive uh not as inclusive and this
- 2:22 is not that they get the TV show but mankind is a word that's not inclusive right so all of mankind in all our Mankind we strive for the stars the moon was just the start that grandfathered in
- 2:34 the space for grandfathered another uh non-inclusive word the old geers agist that was running the program back then were uh was real Boomers agist right so now we're going to set up this thing
- 2:48 where it analyzes this so we click log in we just log in um as I said we have a article uh content type that has a article in it it we're just going to create a new field
- 3:01 in this case it's going to be we take TT plain long because the uh reasoning for it might need more than the 255 characters that the short one is uh and we call this reasons of reaction like
- 3:18 reasons of reaction uh this should uh create unlimited field because there can be unlimited reasons of reactions and then on this we just Ena the AI Interpolator we're going to use
- 3:32 the rule OpenAI string long so this takes any text and produces uh non- formatted text from this we're going to use the article as the context and then I already have a prompt here because
- 3:46 it's pretty um pretty uh long and of course here you have to you know Define your sensibilities you can make it even more complex that if especially if the article is based on html text they can
- 4:01 look for quotes and you can write that uh the language of the article should be sensible but the quotes uh sorry inclusive but the quotes doesn't necessarily have to be this because if
- 4:14 you write about um uh article about someone who uses a language that's not inclusive you should still of course actually write their quotes right but in this case I'm not going to make it that
- 4:28 complex so what I have is basic on the context if there's any reason for the context T to not be inclusive towards genders the lgbtq community physically disabled persons a person's age or
- 4:40 minorities list as many of those reasons as you can if not respond inclusive text um and then it uses the context of the article then uh and in advanced settings we're
- 4:54 going to change this to batch so we see progress we're just going to run it in the go right now now we said GPT-4 because it's better at analyzing text and we can wait in this case and we can
- 5:06 say that it has a role that you are an inclusive language consultant analyzing text for ex uh non-inclusive I guess you say language it's important we have OpenAI
- 5:24 moderation on in this case because um what this does is basically it checks against OpenAI and I asked this beforehand hey can I ask you AI this question and if this has things that
- 5:38 breaks determined Services of OpenAI you of course don't want to send it because then you could lose your access to OpenAI uh and that's extra important here because it might if you have a reason to
- 5:52 think that text are not inclusive it might be because they are very abusive or racist or sexist right which is sometimes things that OpenAI just don't tolerate so we're going to go back now
- 6:07 to our to um articles here so if I reload I'm going to have edit here so we can start with this all of humankind uh the inclusive text and hopefully this should say nothing so if we go back also
- 6:23 to edits there's no reasons of reaction so this could be published now if we go to our all of mankind text and save it this should hopefully now then if I go back to edit give some reasons of
- 6:39 reaction so mankind grandfather old geers Boomers exactly what I try to put in there to be non-inclusive language um yeah so this is a way where you can have uh AI analyze your content
- 6:54 and make sure it's inclusive that you can set up on your well you can set it up on your application because you can use Drupal as a API but Drupal is a very good product espec especially for
- 7:09 editors or or people that works with content so um yeah that's it thank you for watching

## The post in three sentences

Two test articles, one inclusive and one full of words like mankind and boomers, are checked by an OpenAI automator on an unlimited long text field. The prompt asks GPT-4 to list reasons why the text is not inclusive towards genders, the LGBTQ community, disabled people, age or minorities, with OpenAI moderation turned on. The inclusive article gets no reasons and the other gets a list.
